Title: International Journal of Dermatology
Abstract:
Melasma is a common acquired disorder of pigmentation characterized by symmetrical brown to gray-brown facial pigmentation. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study investigated the effectiveness of oral procyanidin combined with vitamins A, C, and E in Filipino women with melasma. The study evaluated changes in pigmentation and clinical response following treatment. The findings provided evidence regarding the potential role of antioxidant supplementation as an adjunctive approach in the management of melasma, particularly in individuals with darker skin types. The research contributes to the understanding of nutritional and antioxidant strategies in pigmentary disorders and highlights the importance of evidence-based approaches to cosmetic dermatology
