Title: The utilization of natural therapies in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19

Abstract:

Immediately after the outbreak of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, scientists from all over the world started a fight against time to find effective therapeutic means to prevent and treat this terrible scourge. Starting with the year 2020, researchers in the field of various natural therapies have begun to publish in specialized journals the field, studies on the scientific use of medicinal and aromatic plants, volatile oils, homeopathic remedies, nutritional supplements, bee products, natural active substances, etc., in the hope to find help for the millions of people around the world who were in danger of dying from this terrible virus.

The abbreviation SARS-CoV-2 translates as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, while COVID-19 is the disease caused by this virus. The name "coronavirus" is derived from the Latin word "corona" for crown or halo and refers to the characteristic appearance of the virus, which resembles a crown. The infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, produces respiratory infections with degrees of severity from medium to severe, which can even lead to death.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19, are: fever, dry cough and fatigue. Other symptoms that are less common and that may occur in some people are: pain, nasal congestion, conjunctivitis, headache, sore throat, diarrhea, loss of sense of taste and smell, skin rashes and redness of the fingers and toes. The most common manifestations of post-COVID-19 illness include: cognitive dysfunctions, which people call "brain fog", breathing difficulties, fatigue, dyspnea, headache, cough, myalgia, lost of smell and taste, etc.

In this study, I will present some of the possibilities offered by various natural therapies for the prevention and treatment of this infectious disease, known as COVID-19. Various natural therapies, like acupuncture, apitherapy, aromatherapy, Ayurveda, homeopathy, phytotherapy,  different manual therapies, etc, can play an important role in treating the post-COVID condition, respectively the various symptoms that accompany this disease for a long time, thus being a real help to patients recovering from this viral infection.

For today's medicine, a combination of allopathic and traditional medicine methods is an effective way to prevent and treat various acute and chronic diseases, including the infection with the new coronavirus, which through the pandemic caused by it, produced heavy human losses at the global level.

Integrative medicine, which brings together the exceptional achievements of modern medicine, with the healing power of various natural therapies, is the way forward in the 21st century.

Title: Integrative Medicine in the United States

Abstract:

Abstract for talk:

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health in the United States defines Integrative Medicine as an approach that brings conventional and complementary together in a coordinated way. Integrative health also emphasizes multimodal interventions, which are two or more interventions such as conventional health care approaches (like medication, physical rehabilitation, psychotherapy), and complementary health approaches (like acupuncture, yoga, and probiotics) in various combinations, with an emphasis on treating the whole person rather than, for example, one organ system. Integrative Medicine aims for well-coordinated care among different providers and institutions by bringing conventional and complementary approaches together to care for the whole person.

The use of integrative approaches to support health and wellness has grown within care settings across the United States and the world. More than half of the Medical Schools in North America are currently members the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health. This presentation will discuss the growth of Integrative Medicine and Health within the United States Health Care System, including a more detailed discussion of the integration of Integrative Medicine within two of the leading health care system’s in the United States, Duke University Health System and the Mayo Clinic.
