Women more likely to die following heart attack than men: Study

Previous studies have found that women with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have a worse prognosis during their hospital stay compared to men, and that this may be due to their older age, increased numbers of other conditions, and less use of stents (percutaneous coronary intervention; PCI) to open blocked arteries.

Sotagliflozin Gets FDA's Blessing for Heart Failure

After a rocky development and regulatory road, the FDA has approved sotagliflozin (Inpefa) for treating heart failure in patients with or without diabetes, manufacturer Lexicon Pharmaceuticals announced on Fridayopens in a new tab or window. The dual SGLT1 and SGLT2 inhibitor is indicated for reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and urgent visits or hospitalization for heart failure in adults with heart failure, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other cardiovascular risk factors.
