Conference Tracks

Track 1: Potential Indoor Air Treatments to Prevent Disease Transmission

Arguably, the defining element of terrestrial life is respiration, the air that we breathe. Most if not all self-aware respiratory organisms take this for granted, but the last several years have seen this paradigm turned on its head, as a respiratory pandemic has consumed the global human population, leaving in its wake a trail of death and devastation. This conference comes at a critical time in the pandemic, providing an opportunity to take stock of where we have come from and where we are, to compare notes, to divulge what we have learned thus far, what works and what doesn't work, and what we can propose going forward to secure effective medical care, the health of the air we breathe, indeed our very survival. In this spirit, I welcome you, my colleagues, and allies in this war which remains ongoing. Failure is not an option.

Track 2: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a condition that will be discussed in the Respiratory Disease Conference in detail. In this condition, the fluid builds up in the lungs, because of which oxygen can’t get to the organs. The fluid starts leaking from small blood vessels and collects in tiny air sacs in the lungs so they can’t fill with enough air. Because of this, blood can’t pick up the oxygen which needs to carry to the rest of the body. In this way, organs might not work the way they should or might shut down. ARDS is sometimes life-threatening and can get worse quickly, but generally can be treated and most people recover.

Track 3:  Cardiopulmonary Disorders

The term cardiopulmonary disease describes a wide range of conditions that affect the heart and lungs and we invite all members to join the Cardiopulmonary Disorders Conference to get updated in this field. These organs are closely connected and a problem in one can spill over to the other. For example, when the heart is not able to pump blood efficiently | normal oxygen movement in the lungs is reduced | causing shortness of breath. On the other hand | a problem with the lungs can cause the heart to have to work harder to get oxygen from the lungs into the blood. Common types of this disease include:

  1. Chronic bronchitis
  2. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  3. Congestive heart failure
  4. Emphysema

Track 4: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a slowly progressive obstruction of airflow into or out of the lungs. Experts have estimated about 32 million persons in the United States have COPD. The disease occurs slightly more often in men than in women. The symptoms come on slowly and many people are consequently diagnosed after age 40-50 although some are diagnosed at a younger age. COPD patients may exhibit symptoms of chronic bronchitis emphysema and asthma.

Track 5:  COVID-19 and Respiratory System

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 emerged as a serious human pathogen in late 2019 which is the cause of the disease COVID-19. The most common clinical presentation of severe COVID-19 is acute respiratory failure consistent with acute respiratory distress syndrome. In this case airway, lung parenchymal, pulmonary vascular, and respiratory neuromuscular disorders all feature in COVID-19. This Respiratory Disease Conference reviews what is known about the effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection on different parts of the respiratory system to understanding the underlying biology of respiratory disease.

Track 6: Emerging Issues in Respiratory Diseases

These emerging infections include severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS‐CoV), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS‐CoV), and the pandemic influenza A(H1N1) and avian influenza (AI) viruses have seriously threatened global health and the economy. In this International Conference on Respiratory Disease and Care, we will be focusing on all the challenges and advancements in this field to upgrade our knowledge on Pulmonology Care.

Track 7: Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lung primarily affecting the small air sacs known as alveoli. Symptoms typically include some combination of productive or dry cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty breathing. The severity of the condition is variable and is usually caused by infection with viruses or bacteria and less commonly by other microorganisms. The disease may be classified by where it was acquired such as community- or hospital-acquired or healthcare-associated pneumonia

Track 8: Pulmonary Vascular Disease

Pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) is a broad term including any condition that affects the blood vessels within the lungs. These vessels take blood that is depleted of oxygen to the lungs from the right side of the heart. Deoxygenated blood travels through the pulmonary arteries where oxygen is taken up. The pulmonary veins leave the lungs and take blood rich with oxygen to the left side of the heart where oxygenated blood is distributed throughout the body. This process continually refills the blood with oxygen and less carbon dioxide being exhaled. A pulmonary vascular disorder can lead to cardiovascular problems as well as damaging the quality of the patient’s life.

Track 9: Mechanical Ventilation

Mechanical ventilation is a treatment to help a person breathe when they find it difficult or are unable to breathe on their own. Here a mechanical ventilator pushes airflow into the patient’s lungs to help them breathe.

Mechanical ventilation may be:

  1. Invasive ventilation with a tube inserted into the patient’s airway is performed in the intensive care unit in the hospital.
  2. Noninvasive ventilation can be used at home by people with respiratory difficulties.

Track 10: Respiratory Failure and COPD Complications

Respiratory Failure:
Respiratory failure is a condition in which your blood doesn't have enough oxygen and has too much carbon dioxide. Sometimes it has both problems i.e. when you breathe your lungs take in oxygen and the oxygen passes into the bloodstream, which carries it to other organs. Another part of breathing is removing the carbon dioxide from the blood and breathing it out. Having too much carbon dioxide in your blood can harm your organs. If this imbalance occurs then it hampers and creates abnormality in the lungs leading to respiratory failure.

COPD Complications:

  1. COPD can cause many complications, like:-
  2. Respiratory infections. People with COPD are more likely to catch colds, the flu and pneumonia.
  3. Heart problems. For reasons that aren't fully understood COPD can increase your risk of heart disease including heart attack
  4. Lung cancer. People with COPD have a higher risk of developing lung cancer.
  5. High blood pressure in lung arteries. COPD may cause high blood pressure in the arteries that bring blood to your lungs.
  6. Depression. Difficulty breathing can keep you from doing activities that you enjoy and dealing with a serious illness can contribute to the development of depression.

Market Analysis Report for Respiratory Disease 2022

Covid19 impact on the global anesthesia & respiratory market

Due to COVID19, the global anesthesia, respiratory and sleep therapy devices market saw an increase of 14.4% in 2020 from a valuation of nearly $9.6 billion in 2019. The latest analysis shows the global experiencing a moderate decline in 2021, after a spike in market demand in 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a massive impact on the entire market. While it adversely affected the anesthesia market, respiratory market segments experienced unprecedented growth due to a continent-wide state of emergency and a surge in demand for these products. However, the effects are only temporary and are expected to correct themselves in the recovery years due to over-purchasing and a transition back to pre-pandemic conditions.

European ventilator market insights

The overall U.S. ventilator market grew significantly in 2020, due to the increased number of patients requiring respiratory support from COVID-19 complications. The acute care and emergency transport segments saw the most pronounced growth, while home care and neonatal ventilators took small steps backwards in 2020. Due to the abnormally high sales numbers and the influx of ventilators into the market, the market is expected to decrease significantly in 2021 and again in 2022.

The U.S. ventilator market can be segmented by the device’s level of sophistication and location of use. The six categories are acute care ventilators, sub-acute care ventilators, home care ventilators, neonatal ventilators, non-invasive ventilators, and emergency transport ventilators. These products are tailored to meet the needs of different age groups or individuals with specific physiological limitations.
