Vaccines stimulate the body's own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or disease.
Immunological disorders are the conditions caused by a dysfunction of the immune system including allergy, asthma, autoimmune diseases, and immunological deficiency syndromes. The immune system is a complex network of cells and proteins that defends the body against infection. The immune system keeps a record of every germ it had defeated so it can recognize and destroy the microbe quickly if it enters the body again.
A public health microbiologist contributes to the prevention of communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis, plague, diphtheria, rabies, foodborne illnesses and sexually transmitted diseases, by observing and researching the relationships between microorganisms, diseases and public health.
